Business Club November 29th Editor's note: On the evening of October 31, 2010, the Shanghai World Expo, which lasted half a year, ended in a song and laughter. Through the Expo, we have seen the intelligence, greenness, and harmony that science and technology have brought to people's lives. We have also seen the relentless pursuit and yearning for a better life. Cost-reducing apparel, food safety traceability systems, zero-emissions new energy vehicles, dynamic 4D movies... Although these fresh and exciting smart displays have already ended, the technology wealth that the World Expo leaves for humanity is still enjoyed by people. We believe that in the near future, the "Expo" can truly enter people's lives completely. This edition will launch the “Expo Life Change” series from today onwards. Looking back at the highlights of science and technology at the Shanghai World Expo, we will look forward to the tremendous changes that will result in human life.

The biggest attraction of fabric technology lies in its “personality”, and the power of technology has brought a brand new wearing experience that makes people’s lives more comfortable and beautiful. The Shanghai World Expo 2010 will present all the scientific and technological achievements accumulated in the textile industry for many years. Please pay attention--

Textile and clothing have experienced the evolution of thousands of years, and the joining of scientific and technological forces has made it more and more intelligent. Clothing is not satisfied with basic functions such as comfort and beautification, and its intelligence is constantly expanding and expanding. Through the demonstration and introduction of different cases, the Shanghai Expo will depict people's future urban life scenes, including changes in clothing.

Into the green era With the popularity of environmental awareness, the concept of biodegradable fabrics has become increasingly popular. For example, the uniform T-shirts of the staff of the German Pavilion staff are made of a special fabric. Once the cotton T-shirt is exposed to the corresponding bacterial environment, it will be completely decomposed, and the degradation time will only take 16 weeks. Even clothing Buttons are no exception. After the Shanghai World Expo ended, the staff of the German Pavilion will fill these T-shirts underground in the German Pavilion to provide nourishment for the trees in the Expo Garden.

Although it is a good idea to degrade clothes, why does a good piece of clothing disappear in as little as 16 weeks?

Liu Lifang, an associate professor at Donghua University’s School of Textiles, explained that the “degradable” concept that we currently understand means that fabrics can be decomposed in the soil after being discarded, or can be recycled and used without causing pollution. “The cotton, silk, colored cotton and Other fabrics we usually wear are degradable, but the degradation rate may not be as rapid as the special fabrics displayed by the Expo. In addition to the natural fabrics we generally use, Tencel and Modal , chitin fiber and biodegradable synthetic fiber are all degradable environmental protection fabrics."

She also pointed out: “The speed of degradation of fabrics is related to the characteristics of the soil. Some special soils can accelerate the degradation. The German Pavilion’s T-shirts also require a corresponding degradation environment. The degradation rate of common fabrics we currently wear has not yet been determined. Conclusion."

"The use of natural fibers in the manufacture of fabrics to reduce the reliance on petroleum extracts is of positive significance in alleviating the shortage of petroleum resources and the implementation of the concept of green environmental protection," said Liu Lifang.

Environmental protection clothing automatically cools against rain, wind, dirt, moisture, air, UV, flame retardant, and quick-drying. The green or blue clothing worn by the Expo's volunteers has the above functions. This cool fabric, called Flycool, is a special item selected at the Shanghai World Expo. The fabric's cool fiber resiliency and fiber thermal diffusion rate are better than ordinary fibers, and there are a variety of composite natural minerals, jade and other imported, is a multi-functional environmental protection Fabric.

As the provider of this special fabric, Hu Yongqin, chairman of Taiwan Textiles Industrial Co., Ltd., explained that the Flycool fabric provided for the Expo this time, “after contact with the skin, it can produce a cool temperature of 1°C-2°C and a long time of daylight. Irradiation can produce a cool temperature difference of 3°C-5°C, and it also has the effect of moisture perspiration and UV resistance."

Why does it produce a wonderful effect of lowering the temperature? Hu Yongqin explained: "This kind of fabric adds compound mineral powder to the chemical fiber. This way, the fabric made on the one hand can increase the rate of heat dissipation, allowing the fabric to dissipate heat faster than the body can produce heat, thus playing a role in lowering the body surface temperature. On the other hand, anti-UV materials have been added to the fabric to allow the fabric to separate the UV rays and reduce the amount of external radiant heat.

Liu Lifang pointed out: "Adding various minerals to chemical fibers depends on the compatibility of several types of minerals. If there are agglomerations between several types of powder, it will cause technical difficulties."

However, Flycool fabric did this, and Taiwan Textiles Industries successfully produced this special cooling fabric. Not only that, the more important significance of this fabric is environmental protection. Hu Yongqin introduced, "Because of the obvious cooling and cooling effect, the temperature of the wearer's ambient air-conditioning can be increased by 1°C, which can save about 3%-5% of the electricity bill; about 0.66kg of carbon emissions can be reduced."

Future trends in new fabrics According to Hu Yongqin, currently they are developing a new generation of Flycool fabrics, which are 100% made from plant fibers and can be degraded in the environment, in line with the international market demand for energy-saving and environmentally friendly textiles.

So will the cost of this fabric be very high? Hu Yongqin said: "The cost will be higher than the average fabric, but in the garment production process, does not require the garment to use the fabric as a whole, but can be used in places where clothing needs to focus on heat dissipation such as underarms, on both sides of the body This will reduce costs.” He predicted that “this type of fabric will be used in many areas such as jeans, sportswear, and tooling, and I believe it will become a trend for the future of green fabrics.”

In addition, the author also learned that Donghua University is developing a new kind of aliphatic polyester fiber, which is a raw material synthetic new environmental protection fabric. Although it is still in the laboratory research stage, it will have a good application in the future. prospect. On the cost side, according to an expert who did not wish to be identified, “if there is an industrialization in the future, the cost difference between this kind of fabric and ordinary fabrics will not be great, especially if the current price of cotton yarn soars. Certain advantages."

Today, in the context of advocating environmental protection and protecting the environment, waste recycling and reuse are becoming the direction of many printing and dyeing companies. Many of the recyclable environmental protection garments displayed at the World Expo not only have good visual effects, but also help reduce waste and save energy.
